The "Old City", as it is often termed, is largely located to the South/West side of the Cathedral. Large parts of this area are owned by Winchester College and it is an area bustling with scholars going about their daily routines. The area by the historic Kingsgate is affectionately known as 'Kingsgate Village", and is home to Kingsgate Prints, Cornflowers, P & G Wells, Kingsgate Provisions, as well as the renowned Wykeham Arms public house.
We like nothing more than to go for a hearty walk up St. Catherines Hill, back into the city, along the Water Meadows, and to the Black Boy on Wharf Hill, the Wykeham Arms, or the very dog friendly Queen Inn on Kingsgate Road, which has a fabulous garden.
